Coco Gauff makes surprising revelation on how many people recognize her in public

Coco Gauff reveals it’s rare cases when people recognize her in public and want to take selfies but also admits that she is actually happy it is that way.

Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion and the third-ranked player in the world, is widely considered one of the most popular tennis players. This week, 20-year-old Gauff is highlighting the 2024 Stuttgart player field and competing at the tournament for the third consecutive year.

On Wednesday, Gauff started her third Stuttgart campaign with a hard-fought 6-3 4-6 7-5 win over 134th-ranked Sachia Vickery. After addressing her win in her press conference, the 20-year-old was asked some non-tennis things, and it included being asked to reveal if there were any impressions about Germany or the Stuttgart region.

“I usually don’t have too much time for tourism, but when I was in Berlin I did a lot of learning about history and the Wall and everything about World War II, which is something I was interested in,” Gauff said.

“But in Stuttgart, I don’t know much to do here. I did go to the mall, which was way nicer than the malls in South Florida. So that was nice.

“But I don’t know. Maybe you could tell me some things to do if I have time. I mean, now that the tournament started, it might be a little hard.”

Gauff: People don’t recognize me that much

When asked specifically if she visited the Stuttgart mall and if someone asked her for a selfie, Gauff revealed that she basically went unrecognizable. Interestingly, Gauff also shared that more or less the same happens when she is out in public back home in the United States.

“I did do it once or twice. I don’t think they know a lot of tennis players here in Stuttgart. And honestly, Europe, I don’t get stopped that much. Even in the U.S. it’s not that much as people think, which I’m grateful for,” Gauff said.

If Gauff wins this week’s Stuttgart event, it will likely lead to more German people learning and hearing about her.
