Paris 2024, -100 days until the start of event

The countdown has officially commenced. With just 100 days remaining until the commencement of the individual men’s golf event at the Olympics, scheduled from August 1st to 4th at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, just outside Paris, anticipation is building. Following suit, the women’s event will take place on the same course from August 7th to 10th, the very course that hosted the prestigious Ryder Cup in 2018.

Sixty male and female golfers will grace the field in both tournaments. The deadline for male qualifications is set for June 17th, while female qualifications will conclude on the 24th, with the Olympic torch making its stop at Le Golf National on July 23rd.

The top-ranked players, along with the top 15 female players in the world rankings, with a maximum of 4 professionals per nation, will secure their spots at the Olympics. For the men, this marks the fifth edition of golf’s inclusion in the Olympics, following Paris 1900, St. Louis 1904, Rio de Janeiro 2016 (where golf made a comeback after 112 years), and Tokyo 2020. On the other hand, it will be the fourth edition for the women, with the previous event being male-only in St. Louis, featuring 77 participants, 74 of whom were American and 3 Canadian.

In Paris, in 100 days’ time, Xander Schauffele, currently ranked third in the world, could defend his title in the men’s event. Meanwhile, among the women, Nelly Korda from the United States, boasting five consecutive victories on the LPGA Tour, will aim for a historic repeat. As of now, the highest-ranked Italians in the world rankings are Matteo Manassero and Guido Migliozzi. As for the Italian women, Alessandra Fanali and Virginia Elena Carta seem to have the best chances of qualification.

Les Jeux de la XXXIIIe olympiade, informally known as Paris 2024, are set to take place in Paris, France, from July 26th to August 11th, 2024, precisely 100 years since the city last hosted the event.

The assignment of the event was officially confirmed on September 13th, 2017, during the 131st IOC Session held in Lima, Peru. Paris will become the second city, after London (1908, 1948, and 2012), to host the Summer Olympic Games three times, following the editions of 1900 and 1924.
