AEW hires long-time WWE Spanish-language announcer

Tony Khan’s X

It didn’t get quite as much fanfare as Tony Khan’s other recent free agent acquisitions, but TK did give Carlos Cabrera the “is All Elite” treatment when they announced his hiring during the April 17 Dynamite.

Cabrera was with WWE for nearly 30 years prior to his release in February of 2022. In addition to calling shows in Spanish with the likes of Ed Trucco, Hugo Savinovich, and Marcelo Rodriguez, he hosted studio shows like the Raw and SmackDown recap program WWE En Español. Since his departure, Cabrera has done some work calling lucha libre for AAA — including a reunion with Savinovich just days after WWE let him go.

Prior to joining WWE in 1984, the Bogota, Colombia-born Cabrera covered news and worked as a radio personality. He’s also won awards for his voice-over work in both radio and television.

No details have been reported on Cabrera’s deal with AEW beyond the fact that he started on their Spanish announce team with tonight’s show.
