Just when we thought they were done, they come back in.
The Chicago Bears and Ryan Poles decided they wouldn’t rest on their laurels and sit on their hands for the rest of the draft.
After making the final pick of what they held coming into the weekend, the Bears traded back into the fifth round with the Buffalo Bills and grabbed Austin Booker from Kansas.
Booker had some late-second, third-round buzz coming into the weekend NFL Network (and others) say, so grabbing him in the fifth feels like a nice get for Chicago.
Booker was a popular name on Bears Twitter for No. 122. They end up getting him at 144 for a future pick. Not bad at all.
The Bears needed pass rush help and they get some.
Trade terms!

The Bears get their edge rusher, trading into Round 5 and taking Kansas’ Austin Booker.
From @dpbrugler: “He is an ascending player with the ability to maximize his athletic traits and body length/force with proper biomechanics.”
Booker was Dane’s 78th-ranked player overall.

The #Bears trade up into Round 5 for Kansas EDGE Austin Booker!
Love this selection. He’s raw, but he has legit starting tools. Long, athletic, high motor. Absolutely worth trading up for.

“Max Crosby light, Kirkland brand Crosby….if he went back to school this year, he might have ended up as a late 1st rounder next year” @MoveTheSticks on #dabears latest pick Austin Booker
— Jeff Meller (@Jeff_Meller) April 27, 2024
.@MoveTheSticks saying Booker could have been a late first-round pick next year had he gone back to school.
Yes, I will happily take him in the fifth.

Thank god we traded up to get an EDGE so I can properly enjoy the Tory Taylor pick without people bitching about it

Austin Booker isn’t going to blow anyone away physically, but if we’re looking at college production alone, Austin Booker showed promise
He’ll be a solid rotational piece. #Bears

He’ll need to add weight and he’s not the lengthiest player but he will be a useful piece https://t.co/MiejkhcN8J pic.twitter.com/vcVbU0cUqZ

Our own Jacob Infante did a thread on him. So if you’re looking to get to know the player, start right here.

And for all of those who were made after the Tory Taylor pick…
Everyone still mad about the punter?!

If the Bears make any more moves, you know we’ll be all over it. So stay tuned right here on WCG.
