Vialli and Mauro Golf Cup: sport and solidarity

on

Professionals, celebrities, and amateurs will unite on the green once again for a day of sport and solidarity at the Royal Park I Roveri in Fiano Torinese. Nestled within the beautiful La Mandria Natural Park and a veteran host of numerous international events, the venue is set to welcome the 19th edition of the Fondazione Vialli e Mauro Golf Cup on Monday, June 3. Since its inception in 2004, the tournament has been a crucial fundraising tool for ALS research, driven by the mission of the Turin-based nonprofit organization.

This year, the competition will feature thirty teams, each consisting of a professional from the DP World Tour, a celebrity from the world of sports or entertainment, and two amateurs. Notable participants confirmed to attend include football legends Michel Platini, Christian Panucci, and Mauro Tassotti, along with reigning champion Borja Valero. On the professional side, participants include Adrian Otaegui, recent winner of the Volvo China Open; Rafa Cabrera Bello, also a four-time DP World Tour titleholder; Guido Migliozzi, winner of the 2022 French Open and runner-up at the recent Volvo China Open; Jorge Campillo, three-time champion on the European Tour; and Stephen Gallacher, with four DP World Tour wins and Junior Ryder Cup captaincy to his credit.

Massimo Mauro, reflecting on the event’s significance, shared, “We are thrilled to bring this event back to Royal Park I Roveri for the seventh time, one of Italy’s most beautiful and strategically located clubs. The last time we held the competition here was in 2019, shortly after we learned about Luca’s illness. He was with us, enduring pain yet fighting bravely. It’s in his memory that we aim to keep the spirit of the Golf Cup alive, celebrating and sharing the courage he taught us all.”

The event’s philanthropic goal is ambitious. The funds raised will support the 2024 ALS Research Grant by the AriSLA Foundation, of which Fondazione Vialli e Mauro is a founding member, and the purchase of a state-of-the-art endoscopy machine for pancreatic cancer diagnosis projects at the IRCCS Candiolo Institute, a specialist cancer treatment facility. To date, Fondazione Vialli e Mauro has raised €6,025,000.

The Vialli e Mauro Foundation can count on the support of a dedicated team of friends and sponsors, including presenting partners RF Celada S.p.A. and ERG S.p.A., two pillars of Italian enterprise that embody the spirit of the initiative.

Guido Celada, CEO of RF Celada S.p.A., stated, “Participating in the Golf Cup, a fixture for us for many years, remains extraordinary especially for its goal: to aid ALS research. Our aim is to support the Vialli e Mauro Foundation’s victory, and we’ll meet our competitors on the green with the same spirit that Gianluca inspired.”

Edoardo Garrone, President of ERG S.p.A., expressed, “At ERG, we closely identify with the goals of the Vialli e Mauro Golf Club, which we’ve supported since its inception. The initiative’s practicality added another €240,000 last year to the considerable €4 million already gathered for ALS research over the years. The work of the Vialli e Mauro Foundation aligns increasingly with our corporate model, solidly based on sustainability principles and the values of solidarity and corporate social responsibility—values ingrained in our nearly ninety-year business history. Through these, we are committed to contributing to a better future, creating sustainable value, sharing our passion, and courageously meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing market in difficult and complex scenarios.”
