With the official announcement regarding the 2024 LPL Summer Split, here is everything you need to know about the new format for the league.
LPL 2024 Summer Split Format – 3 stages before playoffs
Compared to the traditional single round-robin Bo3 format used by the LPL in the past years, a revamped format will be used heading into summer.
According to the announcement, the regular split will be divided into four stages: group draw, fixed group, in-group, and “box-out” (unofficial name) stage. Let’s go over one by one and explain what it means for the competition.
Group Draw Stage
The 17 teams will be divided into 4 pools based on their Spring Split Performance. Teams with home court in the same arena will be in different groups. The seedings of the pools are:
Pool 1
- BLG
- TES
- JDG
- NIP
Pool 2
- FPX
- WBG
- LNG
- WE
Pool 3
- OMG
- IG
- AL
- LGD
- TT
Pool 4
- RNG
- RA
- EDG
- UP
Fixed Group Stage
Each group will play a double round robin Bo3 with the fearless draft mode. The bottom 2 teams in each group will be seeded into Group B while the top 9 ranked teams will go into Group A.
In-group Stage
Once the two groups are confirmed, each will go through a single round robin Bo3. At this stage, teams will compete using the regular “competitive draft” format. The top 7 teams from Group A will advance to playoffs while the bottom 4 from Group B will be eliminated and terminate their split.
Box-out Stage
The last two teams from Group A will compete with the top four from Group B in a single-elimination Bo5 bracket. The matches are as follows:
- 8th place Group A vs 4th place Group B
- 9th place Group A vs 3rd place Group B
- 1st place Group A vs 2nd place Group A
The winners of each match will get a spot in playoffs and join the remaining 7 teams in playoffs.
