Former world No 1 Daniil Medvedev reveals he occasionally likes to let himself loose and drink with friends on the weekends.

On Friday, Medvedev clinched his biggest win of the season after beating Novak Djokovic in the Dubai semifinal 6-4 6-4.

After the match, Medvedev opened up about his habits and admitted that off the court he likes to do regular-guy things.

“I do eat desserts. I do go to bed sometimes late playing PlayStation. I can sometimes drink on the weekends with friends,” Medvedev said after beating Djokovic in the Dubai semifinal.

Medvedev the first player to beat Djokovic in 2023

Djokovic, ranked at No 1 in the world, started the season by winning back-to-back titles at the Adelaide International and Australian Open.

En route to winning Adelaide, Djokovic defeated Medvedev in the semifinal.

In Dubai, Djokovic was playing his first tournament since the Australian Open.

After winning his first three matches in Dubai, Djokovic improved to 15-0 on the season.

Then, Djokovic stumbled upon Medvedev, who delivered an outstanding performance to hand the Serb his first defeat in 2023.

“When you play against Novak you just have to play your best. Kind of hope he doesn’t play his best on the day because when he plays his best, well he has 22 Grand Slams, so even if you play your best, it is going to be tough, not sure you win. I managed to play a higher level than him today. In the second set I didn’t face one break point, but there were so many 30/30 games. But I managed to stay composed and I am happy to be in the final tomorrow,” Medvedev said after beating Djokovic.

Also, Medvedev ended his losing streak against Djokovic.

After beating Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final, Medvedev lost their next four meetings.

In Dubai, Medvedev handled the business and didn’t let Djokovic beat him for the fifth consecutive time.
