It sounds like we have seen the last of The King in the two-toned blue.
Derrick Henry was on this week’s Bussin with the Boys podcast. It was a really good trip down memory lane for fans of the Tennessee Titans. They recounted the run to the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 2,000-yard season, and what could have been for The King’s career had he not broken his foot in 2020. Henry predicted he would have gotten close to 2,200 yards.
He also talked about the rumor that he was almost traded at the NFL trade deadline this past season. It does sound like a deal was pretty close, but Henry declined to give to many specifics on what all went down that week. Reading between the lines of everything that has come out since the season ended with Mike Vrabel and Ran Carthon, my guess is that there was a deal in place and Vrabel fought it with Amy Adams-Strunk eventually stepping in to shut it down. I’m glad he got to finish the season here.
Henry said he definitely isn’t done playing, and that the most important thing for him going forward is going to a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl. That most likely means that he won’t be back with the Titans because they are, best case scenario, a couple of years away from being a legit Super Bowl contender.
I’d love to see 22 go somewhere and win a Super Bowl….as long as it isn’t with the Baltimore Ravens.
