Last night, I asked a question and posted a poll to gauge everyone’s confidence in the future of our Miami Dolphins, especially as it applies to head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier.
Below is the question of the day-
Given what you have seen thus far this offseason, throughout the free agency period and the draft combined, how do you feel about head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier holding the reigns of this franchise going forward? Are you comfortable with both going forward, maybe just one of them or maybe neither? Do they have this team going in the right direction, or is this another example of the Dolphins just spinning their wheels, and there needs to be major change again at the top?
I followed that up with a poll. In the poll, I asked the question-
Do you have confidence in Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier running the Miami Dolphins going forward?
One person voted that they were on the fence about Grier but wanted McDaniel gone. Seven others voted that they both needed to be sent packing. Forty-three of you were still not entirely on the McDaniel train but wanted a new GM. Sixty-six of you like McDaniel as the head coach going forward but want Grier fired. The most popular option, with 104 votes, was that they were both good going forward. So, the consensus seems to be that the fan base is on board with McDainel as the head coach, but the reviews on Grier are much more mixed.
Below are some of your thoughts and answers to the question of the day-

Really unbelievable comments! Before the draft, we had a starting team at every position ! We have a new left tackle that will learn from the best! Behind one of the greatest left tackles to ever play the game! Got a pass rusher with elite talent to add to the ones we already have! Running back with incredible talent and speed! Also rated as the best pass blocker in the draft at that position! Well that would sure hurt us. Doubled down at linebacker and rusher, another player expected to go earlier. Stocky but short receiver who very well may come in and dominate the 3rd wideout slot position. Yes a need! Safety and others! Now bringing in more undrafted to answer more questions and depth. Still have money come June! We can sign a discarded player or two who find themselves cap victims or discarded because of draft pickups. Are we a worse team than last years? No change in the offense, most likely better! Defense is a question mark, more so because of new scheme and Coach! Players from last year need to step up! Training and development now come into play. To say we are a worse team now is pretty much ludicrous!

I’ve been on the bandwagon on getting rid of Grier but this year he did impress.
I thought the Phins did well.
The UDFA is another good area hell the draft used to be 12 rounds.
Some good players out there go get them.
Miami7 came out of the weekend with a bucket load of ifs and a side order of hope.
I’d say at this point, after all’s said & done….I’m NUMB. Doesn’t ‘feel’ like we hit a HR with any pick? Just felt – goin’ in – that we HAD TO come outta the draft with two sure fire day 1 starters but we came outta the draft in the all too familiar Dolphins aura of…Welp? Hope everything goes just right – ‘IF’ Chop is this or does that…’IF’ Paul can develop in a year or two…’IF’…’IF’…’IF’
Certainly hope the stars all align again someday for our Dolphins, and hope this draft class exceeds expectations, but today – I’m just numb, because we got nobody that we can say definitively makes us a better team. NEEDED Chop…but ‘IF’ Chubb & Phillips get back, is he good enough to replace either of them (doubtful)? So – we got better ‘depth’ but did we get better in the starting line-up? Basically Paul needs time. We have like a dozen DT ‘bodies’ that might not equate to one decent starter if you could somehow combine all of em’ into one guy. We come away from the draft (and the mass sub-mediocrity of FA) with no answers there whatsoever for a position that looks pretty devoid of ANY real talent next to Seiler???

My thing with Chris Grier was he needed to get the oline right this year one way or another and looks as if he has failed again also why draft 2-3 year projects in round 1 and 2 them players need to be capable of starting day one not projected projects

Graded as a “B” for me — or, in other words, give me about 2 years to decide.
Step 1: Anticipation mixed w/ hope (a few weeks prior to draft)
Step 2: Excitement (as the draft starts)
Step 3: The WTF stage (as picks are made)
Step 4: Exasperation that soon turns into me questioning why I should care
Step 5: Rationalization (aided by *thoughtful* opinions on this board)
Step 6: Renewed anticipation and hope (the annual draft circle is now complete)

None of the players they just drafted looked like impact players or starters. At best you got rotational or special teams players. Meh.

The old NFL saying you cannot rally tell about a draft pick until 2 years after.
Alley Gator is so out on Grier!
I like McDaniel, but Grier…no. Our OLine took big hits this off season, and all we got out of the best OLine draft in years was a second round project. Armstead and Wynn are good, but always injured. Going from Conner Williams to Aaron Brewer is a step down. Going from Hunt to Robert Jones at guard is another step down. Yes I understand we couldn’t match Hunt’s FA offer, but we certainly could have matched him talent-wise with Graham Barton at #21, and Barton has versatility to start at more than one spot. Chop doesn’t help the DL with Chubb and Phillips coming in hurt, he’s not a day one starter. And the Wilkin-less and Raekwon-less DT spots? We didn’t draft a starter there either. The middle of both our lines are weak and cold as yesterdays coffee. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m not convinced yet.

Should have been one more option of being on the fence for both of them. I like McD, and he has shown some improvement in areas last year. This is the year he has to put it all together and show he has learned from his mistakes, and let the players on the field dictate the outcomes of the game not his playcalls or poor judgement at times. As for Grier, it will come down to how the trenches look this year. If we continue to be weak on the IOL and can’t run the ball up the middle, and if our DL get manhandled in the running game. I think it will be time for Grier to go. I can only hope that they felt the FAs they picked up prior to the draft, would suffice allowing them to go after BPA. If it works out that way, then Grier will look like a genius. If not, he should take the full blame for not addressing the weakest areas of the team (IOL/DT) in the draft with our top picks.

Call_for_the_Priest’77, like many of us, is wondering where the defensive tackle pick was.
I’m trusting the brass here that they know what they are doing. I like the spots they filled with the draft (1 – Edge // 2 – OL // 4 – RB // 5 – Edge // 6 – WR // 6 – Saftey // 7 – WR). I DO NOT like the fact that we did not address DT at all, but at least we still stayed in the trenches with the first two picks which is something we had to do.
Picks 1 and 2 look like investment projects that should give us some depth value to start with before excelling (hopefully) into a bigger role. I would particularly like to see #2 pick OT Patrick Paul get some heavy playing time at one of the guard spots where he could get some valuable on-field feel for the tackle spots while learning the guard spot. If he’s good enough at the beginning of next year, he could solve our RG vacancy with either himself or having Isaiah Wynn move there as Paul takes his LG spot.
#4 pick RB Jaylen Wright looks threatening on multiple levels with his 4.38 speed and rather large Achane pro-like 7.4 YPC avg. And apart from injury, can a player with the phonetic sounding name Jaylen (or Jalen) really go wrong on this football team?
The #5 guy Mohamed Kamara looks like he did more on edge than our #1 (Chop) guy did! Hopefully he can rise well above his draft round potential here!
The remaining three get some good press. I like that Grier is keeping our #1 team unit, the WR corps fresh. Hopefully between these new guys and the incumbents, our WR3 role player is now (upon draftees signing) on the roster. This unit looks very good now and into the future.
Grier and co have hit much more in the drafts than missed, at least comparing studs to duds. I trust this year will work out much the same. Exceptional? Nice but IDK. Solid is my take for now.
