The Denver Broncos selected Jonah Ellis with the 76th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Why did they go with this young edge player out of Utah?

Jonah Elliss is one of the few edge players that looked like he might be available when the Denver Broncos picked that looked like a guy that could be something in the NFL. I mentioned him as a guy I liked in my draft preview.

So why did we go after Elliss out of Utah with the 76th pick in the draft?

Because he’s a player who is an athletic freak. He may be a little shorter of an edge than you want and a little lighter as well, but the guy has moves. He needs some development to get his frame filled out a bit, but is a player who has big-time potential to be a strong player at OLB for the Broncos.

One thing he brings to the table that our edge room lacks is strong play against the run. He’s got a nose for the ball up front and an ability to shed blockers and get on the ball in the run game.

One of the big points I’ve made coming out of last season was the lack of consistent pass rush from our edge players. I don’t think Elliss solves that day one, but he’s the perfect guy to get in the 3rd round with an eye to develop him into a future starter. He’ll have every opportunity to get his feet wet and develop here in Broncos Country!
