Kumar Sangakkara hopes a good World Cup campaign for Sanju Samson

During the post-match conference following the DC vs RR match, Sangakkara discussed the potential performance of Sanju in the upcoming global event. Notably, Rishabh Pant was also included in India’s squad as a second wicketkeeper-batter, sparking a debate over which of the two players will feature in the team. Addressing this, the former Sri Lankan cricketer stated that the decision will ultimately rest with India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid and skipper, Rohit Sharma. However, Sangakkara emphasized that Sanju has solidified his position through his performances on the field.

“It’s really up to Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma and how they see the combination. But he (Sanju) has made his case, so hopefully he’ll have a good run in the World Cup,” Sangakkara said in the post-match presentation.

Later, Sangakkara highlighted that Sanju has displayed a clear and focused approach, addressing the concerns that had hindered his performance in the last few seasons.

“With Sanju, the biggest thing about this season for him is having a lot of clarity about the way he should bat, there are certain stages of the game that he seems to lose a bit of concentration, which we’ve addressed from past seasons,” he added.
