The changes Rory McIlroy has made to his bag for the 2024 season

on

Rory McIlroy made some key changes to his bag for his first event of 2024 following a test run of a new driver towards the end of 2023.

McIlroy had already made space for the new TaylorMade Qi10 (9 degrees) driver, replacing his old Stealth 2.

Now he has added the Qi10 fairway woods into his bag as well in a similar replacement.

There is a reason that the model is the most popular with both Tour players and amateurs, with the Qi10 Fairway offering the ideal blend of distance and forgiveness, while TaylorMade promises that the precision CG location delivers a combo of high launch and low spin.

A new line that builds on the gains made in previous models. The Qi10 Fairway incorporates proven technologies such as TaylorMade’s trademarked Thru-Slot Speed Pocket and laser-etched topline. Respectively, these features boost speed on low-face shots and promote consistently accurate alignment.

The clubs’ Infinity Crowns provide a clean, uninterrupted view of the address and optimise performance. Engineers leaned on this new design to reshape the club, shifting more weight lower in the clubhead to maintain the high inertia they have desperately sought through project Qi10. The enlarged face profile is engineered to inspire confidence and generate ball speed.

McIlroy has added both the 3-wood and the 5-wood to his bag although he has opted for a setup change when it comes to the five.

Previously McIlroy used the TaylorMade Stealth Plus 5-wood with 19 degrees of loft. However, the TaylorMade Qi10 5-wood is set up at 18 degrees of loft as is standard for the range.

McIlroy’s entire bag is supplied by TaylorMade including his ball of choice which is the TP5x (#22).

The star from Northern Ireland knows what works in his bag and has just made a few small tweaks to his club selection for the 2024 season.

While he trialled the Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5 putter late last year, McIlroy has returned to his trusty TaylorMade Spider Tour X.
