The phenomenal fourteen year run of Pete Carroll as head coach of the Seahawks has come to an end, and
The 2023 season of the Seattle Seahawks came to a conclusion, with a 21-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and then on Wednesday the Pete Carroll era came to a conclusion.

Obviously it’s always shocking anytime big changes come around, and this is no different. Carroll oversaw the most successful period in franchise history, including five division titles, ten playoff appearance, was at the helm for ten of seventeen playoff wins in Seahawks history and the only Super Bowl win. Carroll finishes his tenure having posted a winning record in eleven of fourteen seasons while building a culture respected and known throughout the NFL, and the reactions on social media reflect what he built and how he went about his business.
This may well be the proper time to move on from Carroll, but the reactions to the news on social media show that he will be sorely missed by many, and not just by Seahawks fans.
I’m actually sad, man. Need more like Pete https://t.co/us9Wy1taPh

What a run for Pete Carroll in Seattle. He lives by the mantra of “always compete” and it was reflected in his teams.
I don’t believe Seattle’s run of finding gem’s late in the draft was an accident: it was terrific scouting and a culture where it didn’t matter how you got…

this is one of the most fascinating head coaching cycles in recent NFL history
will be really interesting to look back at these decisions in 3-5 years from now

Greatest coach I’ll ever have the privilege of rooting for. An irreplaceable leader of the greatest run in Seattle sports history. https://t.co/InJX9hRtiW

Carroll brought in the greatest era of Seahawks football, a championship, and by all accounts empowered his players to be themselves.
It was a great run, but it was time*
*unless they hire another conservative defensive coach

Pete Carroll is a legend. His attitude, personality, and vibes have brought smiles to families on Sundays in the Seattle area for soooo long now.
As an analyst, there is part of me that is excited for a new future. But he (and Russ) are so special to me.

As long as we’ve been talking about it, I can’t wrap my head around the Seahawks without Pete

Wow.
Farewell to an absolute legend, and the most accomplished coach in Seattle sports history.
No matter what happens next, I will be forever grateful for the most thrilling 14 years I’ve ever had as a fan.

Two thoughts on Carroll out as Seahawks coach:
1) Seahawks job is a good one. Lots of young talent, and some established talent at key positions (QB, WR). But if Pete stays…that gets weird.
2) Carroll emphatically and inarguably still has the juice, if he wants to coach still

Hall of famer in every sense – brought in a college energy and enthusiasm to the NFL level that had never before seen, created a historic D that every team spent years trying to emulate, showed the world post Russ he was in the right for treating the O the way he did.

I have a lot of thoughts, but more than anything, I’ll remember Pete’s time as head coach as overwhelmingly positive. Always more good than bad. Will miss him on the sidelines. https://t.co/Phmdij9Oxc

One thing that is sad (for me) about Pete Carroll stepping down is that there’s now one less NFL head coach who will quote DVOA numbers in press conferences.
