Quartet leads Harbor Town at the halfway way

In just four strokes, four players find themselves in a dead heat for the top spot after 36 holes at the RBC Heritage. Collin Morikawa, Sepp Straka, Tom Hoge, and J.T. Poston are dominating the leaderboard with a total score of -11. Scottie Scheffler, trailing not far behind at -8, is one to watch after a stellar second round puts him back in contention.

The warm weather and mild breeze have created ideal conditions for low scores at the Harbour Town Golf Links. Tom Hoge put together the best performance among the leaders with a remarkable -7, while J.T. Poston, despite avoiding any bogeys, struggled on the greens with only three birdies. Morikawa showcased his best game, posting a solid 66 (-5), while Straka overcame an early double bogey to reel off eight birdies without a single mistake, seizing the lead.

Ludvig Aberg stood out with an impressive performance, sitting in fifth place just one stroke off the lead. The American duo of Cantlay and Theegala, at -9, is also in the mix for the tournament.

Keep an eye on South Korean Byeong Hun An and Scottie Scheffler, both at -8, while six other players sit at -7, including veteran Rory McIlroy. The weekend promises to be filled with excitement and uncertainty.

The RBC Heritage, formerly known as the Heritage Classic or simply The Heritage, is a prestigious PGA Tour event held in South Carolina, boasting a rich history spanning 55 years since its inception in 1969. Traditionally scheduled in mid-April, it follows the iconic Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia.

Throughout its existence, the tournament has found its home at the picturesque Harbour Town Golf Links, nestled within the Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. Designed by the renowned golf course architect Pete Dye, with input from the legendary Jack Nicklaus, the Harbour Town course consistently garners accolades and is frequently featured on various “Best Courses” lists. Initially, in 1972, the first two rounds were split between Harbour Town Golf Links and the Ocean course at Sea Pines, with the final rounds exclusively held at Harbour Town.

Originally contested in late November, the tournament underwent several date changes, transitioning to mid-September in 1973, March in 1974, and finally settling in April in 1983. The inaugural champion in 1969 was the iconic Arnold Palmer, securing his first victory in over a year. Notably, course co-designer Jack Nicklaus clinched victory in 1975, just weeks before his fifth Masters triumph. Davis Love III boasts the most victories in the event with five wins, followed by Hale Irwin and Stewart Cink with three each, while seven others have claimed victory twice.

From 1987 to 2010, the tournament enjoyed sponsorship from MCI, later rebranded as WorldCom, and subsequently acquired by Verizon. Following a brief period without a title sponsor in 2011, the Royal Bank of Canada assumed the role of title sponsor in 2012. Presently, The Heritage is organized by The Heritage Classic Foundation, ensuring the continued success and legacy of this esteemed golfing event.
