Andrew Berry, appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, said the expectation is that Watson and the offense will be ready to roll this fall.

The Cleveland Browns got a short taste of the playoffs in 2023, one that left them disappointed in the outcome and wanting more.

The club proved its resiliency in the run to the playoffs, overcoming season-ending injuries to key players, and a heart-stopping run of close games, to earn that postseason berth.

They will need that fortitude again this fall as the Browns are facing a schedule that, at least on paper, is going to be much more difficult than last year’s slate.

Cleveland is also going to need quarterback Deshaun Watson to return to form and be healthy for the entire season if they hope to build on last year’s success. While the Joe Flacco story was fun while it lasted, it is too much to expect the Browns to have another winning season if Watson once again misses a significant amount of games.

General manager Andrew Berry was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday and remained optimistic that Watson and his surgically repaired throwing shoulder will be ready to roll when the season starts this fall:

“(Deshaun) is in a good spot mentally and physically. He has been rehabbing the shoulder injury, he is well on his way there, and in a really strong spot. He is a lot more comfortable in the organization with a core group of guys on offense who have now played together for a number of years.

“We expect to hit the ground running on the (offensive) side of the ball and I know (Watson) is very excited about returning to the playing field. We have high expectations for him and the offense this season. We feel good about Deshaun, like the trajectory we have seen, and do think he will have a big year.”

The Browns have high hopes for the upcoming season and Watson making a full recovery and playing well will go a long way toward ensuring that those hopes do not go unfulfilled.
