Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic have drawn Jannik Sinner and Stan Wawrinka in their Paris Masters doubles opener. Djokovic, 36, and 24-year-old Kecmanovic are set to debut as a pair in Paris. On the other side, Sinner and Wawrinka also don’t have any previous appearances as a team. Considering that these two teams are feature stars and well-known names, there is no doubt that the match will draw attention. Djokovic rarely plays doubles but Paris is his first tournament since the US Open so he needs matches.
Djokovic set for doubles with Kecmanovic in Paris
It has been a month and a half since Djokovic landed his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open. After appearing in one Davis Cup match a few days later, Djokovic returned home to rest after a big summer. A few weeks ago, Djokovic acknowledged he would probably feel a bit rusty when he returns to action. When taking that into consideration, it shouldn’t be really surprising that Djokovic decided to play doubles in Paris. “Preparations are underway for the final part of the season, I have three tournaments left to play. I’m looking forward to the challenges, I’m still in the race to finish No 1, with Alcaraz in that fight, there are still a few weeks, just enough to bring my game to the targeted level. Probably, that five-week break will affect the beginning a little, I hope that I will be able to overcome it as soon as possible and reach the targeted level and quality of competitive tennis very soon. Expectations are high, I had a lot of success in Bercy and I expect nothing less this year. My biggest wish is to win the Davis Cup, I hope we will be healthy and fit and I hope I can finish the year as number one and win at least one more title,” Djokovic said earlier this month. It remains to be seen how far Djokovic and Kecmanovic can go together in Paris.
