MetLife’s other team desperately needs a win

The top two selections from the 2021 draft will face off tonight on Thursday Night Football, as both try to salvage their teams’ dwindling playoff chances.

With the New York Jets’ season spiraling out of control, they will likely need to win out to lock up a playoff spot. The suddenly impressive Jacksonville Jaguars are just one game behind the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South standings.

The Jets began the season with a 6-3 record but have now lost four of their past five games. In three of those losses, they scored 12 points or less.

WIth Mike White still out with a rib injury, Zach Wilson — who was benched in Week 12 — will be back under center for the Jets. Wilson went 18 for 35 for 317 yards, two touchdowns and an interception last week in a loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Jaguars have had the opposite path as the Jets. After upsetting the Dallas Cowboys in overtime last week, Jacksonville has won three of its last four games and suddenly has a realistic shot at winning their division.

Trevor Lawrence is also on the opposite trajectory as Wilson. He is finally beginning to live up to the sky-high expectations that came along with his draft pedigree. Since Week 9, Lawrence has 14 touchdown passes and one interception. He had arguably the most impressive game of his young career against the Cowboys, with 318 yards and four touchdowns that helped erase a 17-point deficit.
