ISPS Handa, the first round was suspended

After a delayed start due to less than favorable weather conditions, the first round of the 2024 ISPS Handa Championship, held at the Taiheiyo Club in Gotemba, Japan, saw a suspension. Currently, the leaderboard is shared at -5 by German Yannik Paul and four Japanese players: Taisei Shimizu, Taiki Yoshida, Tomoyo Ikemura, and Taiga Nagano, with Nagano currently at the 11th hole.

Close behind, just one shot off the lead, are numerous players, including some notable names, with most already back in the clubhouse, except for Spain’s Alejandro del Rey (also at the 11th hole). Among those in contention are Japan’s Keita Nakajima, Ryosuke Kinoshita, and Yuki Inamori, Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg, China’s Haotong Li, Scotland’s Connor Syme, and South Africa’s Casey Jarvis.

Just outside the top ten but still within striking distance are three Italian players: Filippo Celli, Francesco Laporta, and Guido Migliozzi, all at -3. Migliozzi, from Vicenza, has the opportunity to improve his position as he was halted at the 17th hole.

Lorenzo Scalise finished level par and currently sits at 86th place, tied with Andrea Pavan, who still has holes 11 to 18 to complete. Matteo Manassero has already finished his round and is currently 111th at +1. However, Edoardo Molinari is struggling at 150th place at +4 (at the 13th hole), while Renato Paratore is even further back at 153rd place at +5, having already completed his round.

The rules of golf comprise a set of standard norms and procedures that govern how the sport of golf should be played. A committee of experts composed of members from the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision has been in effect since January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that enhance understanding and those that, in certain cases, reduce penalties to ensure fairness. The rule book, titled “Rules of Golf,” is regularly published and also includes regulations governing amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Golf Federation (Federgolf) is responsible for overseeing competitions, ensuring compliance with the rules issued by the R&A, and ensuring that these norms are observed by clubs, associations, and their members. It also manages the resulting sports justice and safeguards their interests abroad.
