Belair and Cargill’s historic win is becoming the norm in pro wrestling, according to the duo.

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill made history at Backlash, becoming the second Black tag team to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship by defeating The Kabuki Warriors, one of the most successful teams in the division’s history. After their victory, the duo talked about the impact of their representation as role models.

Cargill spoke first, emphasizing the importance of showing her daughter how to overcome obstacles through hard work. She stated, ”We are here to show and represent that — regardless of skin tone, regardless of how you look, regardless of where you come from — you can do any and everything if you just put your mind to it.”

Belair also emphasized the importance of representation, stating that it is not a request but a requirement. In addition to celebrating their accomplishment as a team, Belair highlighted the performances of Bayley, Tiffany Stratton, and Naomi earlier in the night, which she believes showcased the talent and appeal of women’s wrestling. Belair acknowledged WWE’s evolving stance on the women’s division, noting that what was once groundbreaking is now standard, marking strides in diversity.

“Once upon a time, where WWE was doing amazing things with women, and it was the first. But now we’re moving on from that, where it’s not the first anymore. It’s the norm,” said Belair.

As career accomplishments go, this is the first time that Belair has held a tag team title in WWE, and it’s Cargill’s first WWE championship since arriving from All Elite Wrestling last fall. Cargill was asked about her transition from AEW to WWE, which she noted as a positive experience.

“Everybody backstage is so supportive,” said Cargill. “They want me to go out here and excel. They want me to have the exclamation mark after every match. Working with Bianca, she will do nothing but excel. So, I have to excel. I have to deliver. That is the standard here. You cannot go out there and just half it.”

Cargill also recognized the pressure to meet high expectations but said she is blessed to have this opportunity, again recognizing it as a testament to the power of determination.
