It’ll start with an Eagles loss tonight
It won’t be easy, but you’re going to have to root for the Seahawks on Monday night football. Maybe a better way to look at it is you’ll need to root against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The schedule has played out to perfection for the San Francisco 49ers during the past month. Multiple losses by the Eagles and Lions have put the Niners in a position to clinch the No. 1 seed as soon as Week 16.
Starting tonight, the Eagles must lose at Seattle. That’s not as far-fetched as it may seem considering Jalen Hurts is questionable with an illness and Philly just demoted its defensive coordinator.
Now, moving on to next week. The 49ers have to beat the Ravens. That goes without saying. Then, the Detroit Lions, who travel to Minnesota, have to lose to the Vikings. Both of those outcomes seem likely.
The next two, however, not so much. To cap off clinching the No. 1 seed on Christmas, the Niners will have needed the Eagles to lose to the Giants and the Cowboys to lose on the road to the Miami Dolphins.
Philadelphia plays four hours before the Niners, but they’re a 10.5-point favorite over the fighting Tommy Cutlets. Honestly, a Dolphins win seems less likely. Dallas will come in ticked off and should do whatever they want to against Miami while controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
It can happen, and never say never in the NFL. And while there’s a possibility to clinch, we may have to wait another week or two for San Francisco to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
