Atlanta FaZe Is Shaping Up For a Major III Win

on

Atlanta FaZe secured the trophy at Major II in an epic fashion, and the team carried that momentum into the Major III qualifiers. Presently, the team is sitting on a perfect win record of 6 – 0, having laid waste to some substantial competitors in the last few weeks. There’s one weekend left before Major III arrives in Toronto, and with a mild challenge on the books, there’s no doubt at all that FaZe will land the top seed for the Major and probably the grand prize – again.

This could be FaZe’s year to secure another COD Champs victory. That would land Simp and aBeZy with three rings apiece, tying them with the likes of Clayster and Karma for the all-time high in terms of world championship wins. It’s worth pointing out that the Tiny Terrors aren’t even in their mid-twenties yet, giving them plenty of time to set a new record in the Call of Duty esports space.

FaZe isn’t alone at the top of the table. During the Major III qualifiers, OpTic Texas has also put up a remarkable performance, boasting a win-loss ratio of 5 – 1. Only FaZe was able to take down OpTic so far in this stage, mirroring the performance that the team put out during the Major II grand final. In a bizarre turnaround, the likes of the LA Thieves are sitting near the top of the CDL standings at this point, having beaten down a slew of low-table teams so far at this stage.

It’s a sorry state of play on the far opposite end of the spectrum. Boston Breach has barely won a map in the last few weeks, netting a 0 – 5 win-loss record and putting up a round-win percentage of just 37.5%. Boston sits flat-bottom in the overall standings with just five wins since the season kicked off, an all-time low for the organisation and one of the worst performances we’ve seen in years in the Call of Duty League.

These are the teams sitting below the qualification line for COD Champs:

  • Vegas Legion
  • Carolina Royal Ravens
  • Miami Heretics
  • Boston Breach

There are three teams with 100 CDL points, and only the win percentages and ratios are keeping the balance in play.

The Weekend

It was a solid weekend of CDL action, though. There was a controversial moment during a face-off between OpTic Texas and Boston Breach. In the opening Hardpoint, OpTic Texas called a stop with the scoreline sitting at 110 – 8 in favour of Boston Breach. OpTic’s Kenny was experiencing technical issues, but the subsequent full reset led to OpTic getting the upper hand and winning the map 250 – 189. Of course, there were immediate calls of ‘crybaby cheese’ on social media.

Elsewhere, Toronto Ultra’s Thomas ‘Scrap’ Ernst reflected on his performance this weekend, stressing that he’s not doing good in some critical areas. It’s a poignant moment for the young player who is widely considered one of the best COD players in the League – and one of the most scandalous competitors:

‘I’m pretty dogshit at SnD now, I can’t lie. I have no flow. I just think this game is super slow in SnD and I’m just challing everything, which is not the right play.’

That came following a loss against OpTic Texas, which made it a whopping 11 – 0 for Texas over Toronto in that category.

There’s a stacked schedule ahead, and this is the final weekend for teams to earn CDL points for Major III. The pick of the bunch next weekend will be the May 12 fixture featuring Toronto Ultra and the New York Subliners – keep an eye on that one.
