Will Chop be there is the question?

With the NFL draft a week away, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah held his final media conference call to give his final thoughts on prospects, team needs, and his predictions for the draft. Jeremiah’s final mock draft was released in the middle of March, and while the buzz surrounding teams and their intentions has changed, he spoke glowingly about Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson, who would be under the tutelage of San Francisco 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek if the 49ers landed the talented Penn State EDGE rusher.

Before Jeremiah outlined how Kocurek would impact Robinson, he did acknowledge that he doesn’t believe Robinson would be available at pick 31 despite his reasoning in March as his stock has risen too much. However, a pairing of Robinson with the 49ers and Kocurek could be a dream pairing.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll be there for them at that point in time with the way everything’s gone through the process. He’s got the elite, elite get off, big time, big time burst. For me, it’s some of the finishing things, just being able to get the quarterback and finish, being a little bit more under control.

Kris is as good as it gets in terms of coaching these guys. The funny thing is he starts, first and foremost, with get off, that’s covering ground, gaining ground. I think there’s even more for him there. Ironically, he takes kind of choppy steps when he gets going. I think Kocurek would probably lengthen his stride out a little bit more and help him cover some ground, and I think you’d get some early wins because of how explosive he is.

Those are two areas that you’d have a chance to work with him and get even more out of him. I know people have — you look at the production, this guy is ultra, ultra disruptive, and he changes games, the Michigan game being one of them, where they just refused to throw the ball anymore because they couldn’t block the guy. So he’s a really, really good player.

If the 49ers are looking to pair Kocurek and Robinson, it would likely require a trade-up, and Robinson would fall into their range. Draft night is a chaotic time, and while it is widely assumed Robinson will be gone well before the 49ers have a chance to strike, anything can happen.
