The 2024 NFL Draft has concluded, and the New York Giants added six new names to their roster. News on undrafted free agents is emerging as the 2024 roster becomes clearer. Draft week is always busy and full of film analysis and breakdowns. It’s easy for fun nuggets and certain plays to get lost in the shuffle.
You’ll find clips and snippets of the newly-selected Giants’ on my Twitter/X timeline, and I’ll use this article to consolidate that anaylsis. Please enjoy this edition of Tales from the Timeline:
Malik Nabers
One of the biggest vulnerabilities for the Giants in recent memory is their lack of explosive plays on offense.
Nabers will help rectify that unfortunate reality.

My synopsis of LSU WR Malik Nabers…
Malik Nabers is a wildly agile route runner with elite flexibility and burst—a nightmare to guard in 1v1 situations. Everything Nabers does on the football field is sudden: his movements/release, how he can quickly explode out of his…

Tyler Nubin
The #Giants got a good one here. Tyler Nubin had 13 INT and 13 PBUs in his college career.
Shane Bowen and the Giants needed additions to their secondary, and Nubin is a great fit for what he wants to do.
— Nick Falato (@nickfalato) April 27, 2024
Love Nubin’s instincts and feel for the position.
Here he is tasked to cloud over top of the lone WR (bottom of screen)…As he gained depth and expanded toward the numbers, he read the QB’s eyes and undercut the backside post for a turnover.
Nubin isn’t a springy athlete, but… pic.twitter.com/s0vXLkbt7r

My notes on Tyler Nubin
-Imposing size – good frame
-A glider and long strider – allows him to access
funtioncal range for deep half/Quarters
– Very good ball skills – extends and secures passes
– Displined in coverage – doesn’t get grabby, well-timed
hits
-Excellent…— Nick Falato (@nickfalato) April 27, 2024

One reason to love Tyler Nubin is on display here
The offense ran post/wheel with the No. 1 releasing directly at Nubin, who doesn’t panic.
The No. 1 “seals” Nubin to the inside, giving the QB the go-ahead to throw the wheel, but Nubin understood the concept and quickly got… pic.twitter.com/BtUPPNStkM

Andru Phillips
The #Giants add another DB in Andru Phillips, who will compete to start opposite Deonte Banks. Here was my synopsis of him:
Andru Phillips is a tough-minded explosive athlete with impressive movement skills and fluidity to flip his hips, stay balanced, and keep his eyes on…

I believe the Giants wanted a springy/explosive CB, one that can quickly plant and drive through the catch point from soft/off…Melton/Phillips fits that description. https://t.co/WZDm3IU9Yh
— Nick Falato (@nickfalato) April 27, 2024
He’s pretty bad at the catch point, but that can come with more experience. He seems to move faster than he can control, which is a curse, but those athletic traits are a blessing.
If he can harness his speed/explosiveness and play more controlled, then even he may not be able… https://t.co/zIQwv6FXDe

Hyatt sold his vert so well that Phillips’ wallet was wide open. This speed with Nabers on the team pic.twitter.com/f3AZMf6P4b

Theo Johnson
I loved the potential of Theo Johnson. This is a value at 107. Here was my synopsis of his play.
Theo Johnson has an elite blend of size and speed for an NFL tight end. He has a ton of potential but not a lot of college production to substantiate his talent. He can play in any…

After having just one true-plus blocker in their TE room last season, New York now has four with Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, Jack Stoll, and, NOW, Theo Johnson, who is over 6’6 and 260 pounds.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. showing serious contact balance in space
There’s a reason why he averaged 4.44 yards after contact, which was 1st in the class. He also forced 46 missed tackles (4th in the class at RB)

Darius Muasau

The #Giants select Darius Muasau at pick 183, an undersized LB out of UCLA
He was a tackling machine who recorded 440 tackles in college and led his teams in tackles in each of the last four seasons.
He attended Hawaii initially and transferred to UCLA in 2022. He will be a…

One game into Darius Muasau’s tape, the guy is an attentive defender in the box who gets small at the precise moments to avoid clean contact from climbing OL.

— Nick Falato (@nickfalato) April 29, 2024
Excellent job by UCLA LB Darius Muasau to calmly process the offense in coverage as a Tampa-2 Mike
At the snap, Muasau orients toward the 3 WR side vs. Empty. The No. 3 (inner WR) goes under, leaving the math in favor of UCLA on the field side (3 over 2).

He’s not as reliable as a tackler nor adept in coverage buuuut I got Matt Milano vibes watching Muasau on film. Zero hesitation, plus instincts + explosion. Similarly sized. And Schoen knows Milano well. https://t.co/zaOfUU88EL
— Chris Trapasso (@ChrisTrapasso) April 30, 2024
Muasau has a MUCH better feel in coverage than McFadden did coming out of Indiana.
McFadden was more explosive coming forward and was a good fit for Wink’s defense. But to his credit, his eyes and positioning improved a lot last season.
Both players have frustrating missed… https://t.co/GRk1doJ426
