Chris Jericho ditches ‘Judas’, gets a Big applicant for his new group

on

AEW’s X

Chris Jericho won the FTW title at AEW Dynasty. Blasting HOOK with a baseball to rob him of his father’s title was designed to be part of Jericho’s latest heel turn, and it might have been a little too successful if the “Please Retire” chants he got were any indication.

To follow-up on those events during the April 24 fallout episode of Dynamite, Jericho essentially trolled AEW fans at Daily’s Place and around the world by coming out to a new Fozzy song (“Spotlight”) rather than his band’s big hit “Judas”.

In the ring, he no sold the backlash, thanking the wrestling world for celebrating his latest title win with him. He renamed Taz’s renegade belt the “For The World” championship, and claimed that Terry Funk passed the torch to him so he could teach younger generations, using his new trademark filings “The Learning Tree” and “The Jericho Vortex” to do so.

Then he got the first applicant for a group that apparently will be called, “The Learning Tree” — former AEW Tag champ Big Bill. Jericho didn’t immediately agree to mentor Bill, so the seven footer left promising to prove himself to Jericho.

This is essentially a remix of Jericho’s previous angles, but maybe with enough new wrinkles — and leaning on some real animosity toward him from the fanbase, maybe that’s enough?
