The Giants go back to the LSU well for another explosive receiver

The New York Giants have selected wide receiver Malik Nabers from LSU with the sixth pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Nabers might be the most explosive offensive player in the draft this year. He brings twitch and speed to the offense, giving them a presence they haven’t had since trading Odell Beckham Jr. after the 2018 season.

Nabers will play all over the offense, lining up in the X, Z, and slot and the Giants hope he’ll be a true No. 1 receiver. He’s an incredibly sudden athlete and should fit well in the quick-passing scheme favored by the Giants, giving them an explosive run-after-catch option. Nabers flourished in pre-snap motion as well as in route concepts designed to get him the ball in space.

The Giants have plenty of downfield speed in Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt, however Nabers should give the Giants the kind of versatile home-run threat they lost when Saquon Barkley departed in free agency.

The Giants reportedly tried to trade up to third overall for quarterback Drake Maye, but were rebuffed by the Patriots.

They bypassed Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy for Nabers. It remains to be seen if the Giants will be able to swing the WR-QB duo, but for now they’ve added some much-needed explosiveness to their offense.
