All players seeded outside the top 16 (as it stands at the end of the Duelbits Tour Championship) will be heading for the qualifying rounds to battle for 16 spots in the final stages at the Crucible, to run from April 15 to May 1.

It will be a superb line up of all-time legends and up-and-coming talent at the English Institute Of Sport, including former Crucible kings Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott, plus Jimmy White, Stephen Maguire, new WSF Junior Championship Winner Stan Moody and World Women’s Champion Baipat Siripaporn.

In all there will be 128 players, with all matches best of 19 frames from the opening round. Session times are 10am, 2.30pm and 7pm for the first three rounds, running from April 3-10. Then on April 11 and 12 it’s the fourth and final round, known as Judgement Day, when places at the Crucible are decided. Session times for those two days are 11am and 5pm.

The format is:

Round one pits players ranked 81 to 112 against those seeded 113 to 144

In round two, those 32 winners will face players ranked 49-80.

In round three, those 32 winners will face players ranked 17-48.

In round four, those 32 winners play each other, with the 16 winners going through to the Crucible.

A spokesman for WST said: “The qualifying rounds are part of the whole Cazoo World Championship experience, and in fact the atmosphere can be just as intense as it is at the Crucible. It means so much to the players to make it through to the final stages, and every year we see incredible drama as the matches unfold, then joy or despair at the end. In a change to recent years, we have made all matches best of 19 frames, to reflect the importance of this event.

“The line up is fantastic as snooker’s strength in depth outside the top 16 is greater than it has ever been, and we are seeing exciting young talents come through, such as Liam Davies who won two matches last year at the age of just 15.

“For just £10 per day it’s an amazing chance for fans to watch a wide range of players and to be part of snooker’s biggest tournament. Tickets for the Crucible often sell out a year in advance so this is a great alternative.”
