Last year’s division winners, Baltimore made a big addition in free agency with King Henry

The Cleveland Browns spent the 2023 NFL season chasing health and the Baltimore Ravens at the top of the AFC North. The Browns ended up two games behind the eventual division winner after having nothing to play for in Week 18 with the Ravens locking up the AFC North by Week 17.

NFL free agency saw Cleveland mostly keeping their roster together from 2023 with a few additions while Baltimore saw a bunch of veterans fly the coup. In looking to replace the departed J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards in the backfield, Derrick Henry was the Ravens biggest addition this offseason.

With Keaton Mitchell recovering from a late-season knee injury, Baltimore is hoping that Henry can jump-start a run game that didn’t have a 1,000-yard rusher and was led by QB Lamar Jackson.

Given his history against them, the Browns defense is unlikely to be worried.

In five career games, all while with the Tennessee Titans, Henry rushed for just 184 yards on 60 carries with one touchdown for a 3.07 yards per carry average. For his career, “King Henry” averaged 4.7 YPC with the Titans and just shy of 80 yards per game.

His per-game average against Cleveland was less than half that but one of those games was his rookie season when he only had two carries.

Now 30 years old, he will turn 31 in early January, Henry has a of miles on his tires. He’s carried the ball over 2,000 times including three seasons over the dreaded 300 carry mark. Among active running backs, only Ezekiel Elliott has more career carries (only 35 ahead of Henry).

Another 300-carry season would put Henry just behind Browns legend Jim Brown for 30th in career carries in NFL history.

How concerned are you about the Ravens adding Henry this offseason? Are you surprised by the limited numbers he’s put up against the Browns in his career?
