Could Rams draft QB Spencer Rattler, MVP of 2024 Senior Bowl?

The Los Angeles Rams made their first selection in the first round since 2016 on Thursday night when they picked Florida State’s Jared Verse. There’s plenty of action still in store for the team this weekend, and Dane Brugler from The Athletic released his day two mock draft.

Who could we see the Rams select on Friday evening? With one second-round pick and two third rounders, Brugler has LA taking a wide receiver, safety, and quarterback:

Second round, pick 52 overall

Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan

According to Brugler’s “The Beast” draft book, Wilson is his eighth ranked WR. He was a three-year starter in Michigan’s pro-style scheme and became the primary receiving option for QB JJ McCarthy and the national title winning offense. At 5-10, 185 lbs., Wilson best projects as a slot receiver with speed to challenge vertically.

Third round, pick 83 overall

Cole Bishop, DB, Utah

Bishop is Brugler’s fourth ranked safety in a relatively weak draft class at the position, at least with respect to the first few rounds. He played some nickel linebacker at Utah, a program known for churning out secondary players for the NFL. He is a steady defensive player but lacks on-ball production and splash plays. Brugler believes Bishop has starting level talent.

Third round, pick 99 overall

Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina

Ratter will turn 24 yards old in September towards the start of the regular season, so he’s an older prospect at quarterback. Much has been made of his potential character concerns after he flamed out at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina despite being the top pro-style quarterback recruit of the 2019 high school crop. Rattler was named MVP of the Senior Bowl this spring in Mobile, Alabama.

One concern is Rattler’s athletic profile, as his testing at the combine was less than stellar. Brugler’s bottom line is that Rattler has upside but teams must gain comfort with Rattler through interviews and the pre-draft process to see if this is an investment they want to make.
