Team Spirit and holders Vitality reach PGL Major Copenhagen 2024

on

The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 EU RMR B is almost at an end. Day three of the event saw more qualifications and more eliminations, and we’re finally nearing the full picture of just who is going to be attending the first CS2 Major.

We’re covering another day of action, where two of the tournament favorites have secured their place at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. We think you can probably guess who that might be.

The donk show rolls madly on, with Spirit securing their place at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. The RMR was a quieter time for donk after his barn-burner performance at IEM Katowice 2024, but he woke up on the final day to help his team take down Heroic 2:0. This win wasn’t just a one-man show, though.

Today, it was zont1x and magixx showing up alongside donk to take the win. Both showed impressive maturity on the server to ensure Spirit kept a cool head, even when Heroic looked to be mounting a comeback on map two. They’re sure to show up to Copenhagen as the youngest team in the tournament, and we can’t wait to see what their gung-ho brand of Counter-Strike can produce on the biggest stage of all. If donk can win his first CS2 Major, he’ll already have acquired many of the game’s biggest honors just months into his Tier 1 career.

Vitality get over the line

Spirit weren’t the only ones locking down a spot at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, with Major holders Vitality also ending the RMR 3:1 with a comfortable win over ENCE. The result puts the cherry on top of a staggering few days for ZywOo, who has looked back to his very best throughout the qualification period.

Again, the comparisons to Spirit are endless, in that this was not just the ZywOo show. You could point to any of Vitality’s five as having highlights today, but we’re going to give props to flameZ and mezii. Both had amazing 1v3 clutches in important moments to ensure the series remained as easy as possible. Now, they head to Copenhagen looking to go back-to-back. If they can do so, they’ll become only the third back-to-back Major winners of all time, and the last since Astralis in 2019. It’ll be no small feat, but they’ve got it in their locker for sure.

Astralis fight on, Monte sent packing

In the 1:2 bracket, it was elation for Astralis, and heartbreak for Monte. Astralis looked shaky as they attempted to avoid missing three Majors in a row, and live to survive another day after besting Monte 2:1 in a tight affair. For Monte, they’ll be disappointed on an individual level, with only DemQQ and sdy showing up throughout the series. This is despite sdy remaining visibly sick, still wearing his mask after his illness that caused his day one absence.

On the Astralis side, they’ll be welcoming a return to form from dev1ce after a rough few days for the legendary AWPer. If they’re to have a chance against ENCE tomorrow, they’ll need him up and running in top form. Staehr was also a highlight for Astralis, coming up huge on deciding map Overpass, just as things started to look a little sketchy. As mentioned, it’s ENCE up next, where they’ll rematch former IGL gla1ve for a spot at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. Anything less than a win tomorrow puts Astralis in the Last-Chance Qualifier.

Here’s the rest of the results from day three of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 EU RMR B:

  • Astralis 2:1 Monte (Monte eliminated)
  • Apeks 2:1 ECSTATIC (Apeks qualify)
  • OG 0:2 GamerLegion (OG eliminated)
  • Vitality 2:0 ENCE (Vitality qualify)
  • Spirit 2:0 Heroic (Spirit qualify)
  • Guild Eagles 2:1 Preasy (Preasy eliminated)
