Taylor Fritz set to become highest-ranked US male player since Mardy Fish

World No 8 Taylor Fritz is set to become the highest-ranked American male tennis player since Mardy Fish held the world No 7 spot in 2011, per tennis.com.

Last October, Fritz broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career and achieved a career-high ranking of No 8 in the world.

When the ATP rankings list gets updated on Monday, Fritz will reach a new career-high ranking of No 7 in the world.

The last American male tennis player to be ranked that high was Fish, who was ranked at No 7 in 2011 September.

After beating Jack Sock in the Dallas round-of-16, Fritz vowed to keep working hard and improving his game.

“I just need to keep working on the things I need to work on to get better, that got me to this point. I always expect a lot of myself and put a lot of pressure on myself, but I just need to keep working and keep improving, and hopefully the results will come,” Fritz said, per tennis.com.

Fritz took the risk and it paid off

Fritz, 25, is a Tour veteran, having turned pro in 2015.

In 2015, Fritz was considered one of the most talented and promising players in the United States.

After taking some time to decide his next move, Fritz took the risk and decided to skip college and instead turn pro.

“Turning pro at 17, I would say, is every top junior’s fear. What I did so well in the juniors, what if I don’t make it. I felt like a switch flip as soon as I turned pro, and I was like ‘now it’s all real’ Everything I did before was awesome, but now it’s like ‘this is, this is it’ I’ve always known like, how can you ever be the best in the world, if you don’t truly, like, believe you can be. You’re never going to accomplish all the goals if you want to if you actually have that belief that you can do it,” Fritz recently told Team Optimum.

Fritz is now one of the best players in the men’s game.
