A remarkable turn of events unfolded after the third round of the PGA Tour 2024’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney. The spotlight now shines on Canadian golfer Taylor Pendrith, as he seeks his first career victory on the American circuit at the age of 32. A stunning round of -8 propelled him to the top of the leaderboard with an overall score of -19. Pendrith’s performance included back-to-back eagles on the 5th and 6th holes, along with four birdies.

Behind him, American Jake Knapp, yesterday’s leader, sits alone in second place at -18 after a solid round of -4 on moving day. Following closely are the duo of Ben Kohles from the USA and England’s Matt Wallace, both at -17.
Further back at -15 are Sweden’s Alex Noren and another American, Kelly Kraft. The group of seventh-placed players, predominantly Americans, including Kevin Tway, Vince Whaley, and Troy Merritt, are at -14 alongside South Korean Byeong Hun An.
It’s worth noting that a victory for Pendrith would significantly boost his chances in the Olympic race. Currently, he ranks sixth among Canadian contenders, with Nick Taylor leading the pack and Adam Hadwin in second place.
Taylor Pendrith’s journey in professional golf began in late 2014, following the Eisenhower Trophy. In 2015, he primarily competed on the PGA Tour Canada, securing three runner-up finishes and a third-place finish in the Order of Merit, which earned him a spot on the Web.com Tour. Although he managed a tied fourth-place finish in the Club Colombia Championship, his sole top-10 finish of the season, he struggled with 14 missed cuts.
From 2017 to 2019, Pendrith focused on the Canadian Tour, experiencing limited success in the earlier years. However, in 2019, he emerged as a contender, finishing as the runner-up in the Osprey Valley Open and then securing victories at the 1932byBateman Open and Mackenzie Investments Open. His strong performances placed him second in the Order of Merit and granted him a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour.
On the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour, Pendrith continued to impress, securing runner-up finishes in three consecutive tournaments in July and another at the Wichita Open in September. His consistent play earned him a spot at the 2020 U.S. Open, where he finished tied for 23rd place.
Following his success on the Korn Ferry Tour, Pendrith earned a promotion to the PGA Tour at the conclusion of the 2020–21 season.
In July 2022, Pendrith achieved his best finish yet on the PGA Tour, securing a T2 at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Later that year, in September 2022, Pendrith was selected to represent the International team in the 2022 Presidents Cup. Despite his efforts, he faced tough competition and lost all four of the matches he played.
