“In general terms, I would say that my overall level was good enough in this match, although I am sure that I need to practice a little more to find that confidence that I don’t have now, I need it to compete in the key points and that they can help me stay in shape. the game. Today I was not far away, I am sure that if I had won the important points of the first set, I would have changed the result,” Wawrinka said after the match, per Punto de Break.

Before losing to Fritz, Wawrinka kicked off his Monte Carlo campaign with a 5-7 6-3 6-4 win over Tallon Griekspoor.

“Win as many matches as possible. I’m happy the way I’m playing, I’m happy the way I’m practicing. I have been really pushing myself to still try to improve. I know my level. I know that I can beat a lot of players.
