Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Forbes ranked AEW as the third most valuable combat sports promotion in 2024 (behind UFC and WWE), with a valuation of approximately two billion dollars. The promotion’s “top draws” are listed as the Young Bucks, Jon Moxley, and Kenny Omega.
- In the aftermath of Ronda Rousey accusing Drew Gulak of inappropriate behavior backstage, Fightful’s Corey Brennan claims “there’s a directive right now” in WWE to not mention Gulak’s name, because the company doesn’t want to bring attention to the story. Gulak is “not gonna be back any time soon, if at all.”
- According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, when it comes to WWE’s premium live events, Peacock “no longer” cares about the live audience numbers. What matters most to Peacock is “the 24 hour number.” This is one reason why WWE can have so many international PLEs with unconventional start times for the USA audience.
- Meltzer also says “the belief is” that Erick Rowan is returning to WWE as part of “the Bo Dallas stable.”
- Bodyslam.net heard that AZM is coming back to the United States in June and will be part of the Forbidden Door pay-per-view event that month. AEW sources added that “anything is on the table” for that card.
- Fightful Select says Shawn Spears started work as a backstage producer on this week’s episode of NXT.
- Tony Khan told the media there was an injury that delayed his announcement of the Bullet Club Gold vs. Daddy Ass & The Acclaimed match at this Sunday’s Dynasty event. Khan also confirmed there will be “consolidation and unification” of the AEW world trios championship and ROH world trios championship on that night.
