The Dallas Cowboys did it! Cooper Beebe!

With the 73rd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Kansas State interior lineman Cooper Beebe. The Cowboys go back to the offensive line and stock up with a guard from college. There are some who think he may push over to center for the Cowboys.

Wide-bodied guard who has been a model of consistency over the last four years, dialing in a very firm brand of football. While hand placement can be a little inconsistent, Beebe is still a bulldozer in cleats who jolts smaller players and moves big ones against their will. A lack of arm length will test him in certain interior matchups in the pros, and he will need to improve his technique to bolster his block sustain. He’s slow of foot and is likely to be pigeonholed into downhill-oriented rush attacks, but that has never prevented him from doing his job in pass protection. Beebe’s experience, girth and drive-blocking talent should make him a long-time starter who can step in right away.

Throughout his collegiate career, Cooper Beebe has played both guard and tackle at a high level with his natural strength and power. Those two traits serve as the core of his ability to play at a high level in the run game and in pass protection.

In the run game, Beebe does a good job of creating momentum at the snap and quickly getting engaged with defenders. Once engaged, Beebe uses his power to drive defenders off of the football and can create running lanes. Beebe has natural power that is evident on run plays. Another element in the run game that Beebe provides is the ability to pull and play in gap/power schemes. Although Beebee has a thick, sturdy lower half, he can still get out in front and serve as the lead blocker on plays. Beebe has the athleticism to climb to the second level of a defense and has enough balance/body control to make contact with second-level defenders.

In pass pro, Beebe’s strength is shown in how he can anchor against defenders who quickly go to a bull rush. Beebe plays with a good stance, which gives him the power to sit down on defenders and stop penetration from defenders.

Cowboys needs:

OT: Tyron Smith is no longer the Cowboys left tackle. That is something we haven’t said in a decade. With the All-Pro moving on and no heir-apparent on the roster, unless you count sliding Tyler Smith outside, the team needs a replacement.

C: Tyler Biadasz settled in with Dan Quinn in Washington, leaving a hole in the middle of the line. Brock Hoffman would be the next man up, but bet on the Cowboys bringing in some competition. (if Cooper Beebe moves to center)

RB: No Tony Pollard after he moved on leaves Rico Dowdle as the top guy on the depth chart. There will be a body added here, it’s just unknown how early they will strike.

LB: The Cowboys lost Leighton Vander Esch to a medical retirement. New DC Mike Zimmer likes bigger, more traditional linebackers. They got Eric Kendricks, but they need more.

DT/DE: The defensive line’s depth was thinned out in free agency as Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler and Johnathan Hankins all departed. More bodies are required.

CB/WR: These two very important positions always need churning of the depth.
