New England Patriots starting right tackle Michael Onwenu will take the stage at the NFL Draft on Friday. As the NFL announced on Thursday, he will be part of a group of legends and current players to reveal their teams’ Day 2 selections.

The Patriots are currently slated to select 34th overall. They have explored the possibility of trading back into the first round, but so far nothing has materialized.

For Onwenu, Friday will be a homecoming. The Detroit native played high school football at Cass Technical, only a mile from the draft’s location at Hart Plaza downtown.

Onwenu later went on to play for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, less than an hour west of Detroit, before getting drafted in the sixth round by the Patriots in 2020. A starter at both guard spots as well as right tackle, he signed a three-year, $57 million contract extension with the team earlier this offseason.
