The Rams are reportedly angling for a big draft day trade.

The Los Angeles Rams are eight years removed from their last first-round selection. Now that they’re finally involved again on Day 1 of the NFL Draft, it looks like they’re looking to take a big swing.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that the Rams, who are currently No. 19 in the draft order, are angling for a leap into the top-10.

Doesn’t mean that the Rams will get their reported wish, but it’s worth noting on a night when we’re expecting a lot of trade activity. This would (of course) move the Rams ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in the draft order.

With Aaron Donald retired, it’s possible that the Rams are looking at Texas’ Byron Murphy II as his heir apparent. He might be the first defensive player taken and he’s at the very least the consensus best defensive tackle in the class. It’s also possible that the Rams, knowing Cooper Kupp is on the other side of 30 with consecutive injury-hampered seasons, make a move for Washington’s Rome Odunze or LSU’s Malik Nabers… or go for the best receiving tight end in Georgia’s Brock Bowers.

Or…. OR… find the Matthew Stafford successor a little earlier and higher in the draft than expected?

Buckle up! We’re in for a wild ride.
