on

Long queue, too many bots, bad mechanics, poor competitive play. These are some of the reasons players started avoiding this (initially popular) mobile game.

We ask ourselves: Is Pokemon Unite dead game?

The mix of MOBA and Pokemon style has led to the creation of Pokemon Unite. This was a highly enjoyable title that has managed to gather a large fan base for quite some time. However, the mechanics and lack of uniqueness have led to a significant drop in player numbers and popularity.

For this reason, it has come to be regarded by many as a completely dead game. Below, we will analyze the most important aspects that lead Pokemon Unite to be considered as such and whether it is as dead as it seems.

Low number of users

This is the element that any user of this game will be able to notice with just a couple of hours dedicated to the title. From the moment you try to search for a game you can see how few players there are, making it very difficult to hop on a quick game.

For this reason, the game has had to resort to the use of bots in the games, making them extremely easy to play against. Whenever you play the game you can get more than 20 kills and collect absurd amounts of points, which would not always happen playing against real players.

A similar situation occurs with its poor competitive play, where there are practically no teams or professional players. This leads to a very low-demand esport with almost no spectators.

Connection problems

Due to the small number of users in the game, playing a ranked game is practically impossible on higher levels. You can spend dozens of minutes searching for players to play with without necessarily being ranked high.

Even if you do find a match relatively fast, it would have extremely serious connection problems. Almost all matches are held with red or orange connections, in some cases with pings over 400.

Playing under these conditions is extremely unpleasant and anyone who has played any game knows this.

Therefore, this has been a very influential factor in the amount of users the game maintains today. Thus we can consider Unite to be a game in risk of dying, where there are many variables involved.

Why is Pokemon Unite dying?

The dull and repetitive style of MOBAs may be one of the reasons. However, other titles such as League Of Legends, Kings of Glory and Mobile Legends, so the problem is probably more closely related to the mechanics of Pokemon Unite.

First of all, we see that the short 10-minute match system is not so appealing to fans of the genre. MOBAs have always been characterized as extremely long games. Thus, shortening the gameplay is seen as counterproductive rather than positive.

Furthermore, Pokemon fans are not necessarily fans of the MOBA genre. Both things are very different from each other and the change was extremely radical. Thus, this genre does not fit with the relaxed playing style that the Pokemon fan is used to.

On the other hand, the game is not particularly appealing in terms of design and mechanics. It fails to outdo its bigger rivals in the MOBA genre. It also fails to differentiate itself from the rest, so this project has not been the best shoot of The Pokemon Company to expand to other genres yet.

Pokemon Unite started as a very fun and interesting game, but its inability to attract MOBA fans was devastating for the title. Currently, fewer users are playing the game every day, so the experience is unpleasant and queues are getting longer.

On this basis, consider it to be a dying game, unless it sees salvation trough updates.
