Is Leffen Quitting Smash Bros Melee?

on

Super Smash Bros is undoubtedly one of the most popular fighting titles. With a lack of support though and other obstacles, it’s a bit more difficult for pro players. Leffen is a big name in Smash, and one that’s managed to take that success further than just excelling in one title. According to some recent comments by the player though, we might see Leffen quitting Smash Bros in the future.

This weekend we saw the Genesis X tournament take place. While now featuring a few different fighters, it’s primarily a Smash Bros event. We saw the two-time EVO champion playing here, where he only just lost out on a top 5 finish. In the wake of the tournament, Leffen took to Twitter to discuss his future with the series competitively.

Leffen Discusses Quitting Smash Bros after Genesis X

Smash Bros has never been the easiest game for players to make a living competing in, especially Melee. Off the back of a very successful year in other fighting games, including winning GGS at EVO, Leffen has been thinking about his future in the game. The player took to Twitter to discuss his future. He’s called out his desire to continue playing other games, including the upcoming Project L which could mean he can’t keep up in Melee.

Leffen quitting Smash Bros isn’t just to focus on other games though. He’s called out the financial challenges of competing in Smash, especially with where he’s based compared to where the major tournaments are.

In terms of his final placing at Genesis X, Leffen performed really well. He came in fifth, after losing to some of the top active Smash players. He called out that these were the “best possible people to lose to”. However, Leffen expressed frustration about continuing to compete in Smash without being able to give it his all.

Leffen is a player with a strong track record in Smash esports so far. If he’s moving on to other fighting games, he’ll likely be a serious contender there too. Smash is a difficult fighter to take part in compared to other games. Leffen quitting Smash Bros Melee would be a loss for Melee, but we might see even more impressive matches from him in other titles.
