Giants legend returns to announce 47th and 70th overall picks

Plenty of excitement surrounds the New York Giants‘ selection of wide receiver Malik Nabers from LSU, who was drafted with the sixth overall pick.

As we move on to Day 2 of the NFL draft, plenty of talented players are still available for selection.

The NFL announced this week that active players and legends will announce the draft picks for rounds two and three on stage, adding to the excitement of fan reactions.

Tonight’s representing Giants legend will be their all-time leading rusher, running back Tiki Barber, who will announce the Giants’ 47th and 70th overall draft selections.

Barber played his entire 10-year NFL career with the Giants and retired as their all-time leading rusher with 10,449 yards, 55 TDs, 586 receptions, 5,183 receiving yards, and 12 receiving TDs.

The former second-round pick out of Virginia appeared in three bowls (2004-2006) and was a first-team all-pro selection in 2005, where he finished with a career-high 1,860 rushing yards.

After the 2006 season, Barber retired while still at the top of his game. However, this decision did not sit well with the Giants players and fans. The following season, the Giants went on to win Super Bowl XLII, their third title.

Barber made an appearance to cover the event. However, his reception was not warm from most of his former teammates and Giants fans. This was due to his disparaging comments about his former teammate and Giants quarterback, Eli Manning.

Barber was inducted into the Giants’ Ring of Honor in 2010 as part of the organization’s inaugural Ring of Honor class, which featured several team legends such as Jessie Armstead, Harry Carson, Lawrence Taylor, and Michael Strahan.

During induction, Barber got a chilly receptions from fans.

Many Giants fans were in attendance for the team’s first-round selection. Seeing how fans react to one of the franchise’s great players will be interesting.
