Elena Rybakina on her top-10 debut: I don’t think I’m going to feel different

Elena Rybakina noted it’s good to be a top-10 player but admitted she probably won’t feel any different when she wakes up on Monday. 

Rybakina, 23, entered the Australian Open ranked at No 25 in the world.

Following her runner-up finish at the Australian Open, Rybakina is set to rose to a career-high ranking of No 10 in the world. 

Had Wimbledon points counted, Rybakina would have entered the top-10 last July after winning Wimbledon. 

“I don’t think tomorrow I’m going to feel different just because of the ranking now. But for sure it’s going to be different on the smaller tournaments. I’m going to be seeded. But I don’t really look for the numbers ranking so much,” Rybakina said, per Musab Abid.

Rybakina loses again to Sabalenka

Rybakina came out firing and she was the better player at the start of the final. 

But Sabalenka worked her way back into the final and in the end beat Rybakina 4-6 6-3 6-4. 

“She played really well, aggressive, a bit less mistakes. I should have been also more aggressive in some moments. I had some chances, for sure, to turn it around but she played really well today. She was strong mentally, physically. Overall, as I said, it was a good two weeks for me here,” Rybakina said after the match, per Tennis Majors.

For Rybakina, it was her fourth defeat against Sabalenka. 

However, it should be noted that al four of Sabalenka’s wins over Rybakina came in three sets. 

“With Aryna now, the score is 0-4. I would say the most challenging (thing) for me is to play against Aryna again and get a win. I would say against powerful player like her, I (need to) improve,” Rybakina said. 

Even though Rybakina fell just short of winning the Australian Open, she has once again showed that she can definitely make great things on the Grand Slam level.
