DO, statements

After the Sunshine Tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia and the Japan Golf Tour, the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour are consolidating their alliance with the South Korean Professional Tour (KPGA). The winner of the Order of Merit of the Korea Professional Golfers Association will thus obtain a member status of the DP World Tour and will play the Genesis Scottish Open, one of the five Rolex Series (8 million dollars) on the 2023 calendar.

We will therefore see Youngsoo Kim in Scotland next summer. The South Korean golfer indeed finished at the top of the Genesis Point Award 2022 after his victories at the Genesis Championship and then at the LG Signature Players Championship at the end of the season.

This agreement follows the return of the European Tour to South Korea by a few weeks. A first for ten years. The Korean Championship, two million dollars in prize money and co-sanctioned with the KPGA Tour, will take place from April 27 to 30 at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon.

Another “strategic” alliance is said to be about to be finalized with the Indian Professional Tour, which receives a stage of the DP World Tour 2023, the Hero Indian Open (February 23-26). So many synergies that confirm here the objective of countering the rise of LIV Golf, allied for its part with the Asian Tour.

The Korean Tour is a series of golf tournaments organized by the Korea Professional Golfers’ Association (KPGA) of South Korea. Almost all golf tournaments take place in South Korea.

The major golf tournaments on the Korean Tour are the Korean Open and the Korean PGA Championship which were established in 1958 and 1963 respectively. Some golf tournaments are also part of the OneAsia Tour.

This tour is played exclusively for South Korean golfers where they can also play on the Asian PGA Tour and the OneAsia Tour and the Japan Golf Tour. There are also a few who participate in the US PGA Tour and the European PGA Tour.

From 2011, the winners can collect tournament points for the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Most tournaments have an OWGR value of six points. Tournaments that are also part of the OneAsia Tour are worth 10 OWGR points.
