Double or Nothing PPV card: Title shots for Mercedes Moné and Will Ospreay

on

Everything AEW has planned for its next big event!

The next PPV adventure for AEW takes place in Las Vegas, NV for Double or Nothing on May 26, 2024. AEW already has a quick start on booking the card with two official matches and several other championship directions.

The Double or Nothing card currently includes:

  • TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Mercedes Moné
  • AEW International Championship: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Will Ospreay

Mercedes called her shot before Dynasty. Willow emerged the winner over Julia Hart, and now it’s time to throw down with the CEO. Tensions are chippy with Mercedes blaming Willow for a serious injury one year ago as opponents in NJPW.

Ospreay earned his title shot by winning the Casino Gauntlet on Dynamite. Strong plans to break Ospreay’s back and make him humble.

For more matchmaking prognostications, let’s check out the champions list.

  • AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland
  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Toni Storm
  • AEW World Tag Team Championship: Young Bucks
  • AEW World Trios Championship: Bullet Club Gold
  • TNT Championship: Adam Copeland
  • AEW Continental Championship: Kazuchika Okada
  • FTW Championship: Chris Jericho

AEW will reveal Swerve’s challenger this week on Dynamite. We haven’t heard from Samoa Joe or Hangman Page since Strickland won the world title, so perhaps they will be in the mix. Outside of Joe and Page, I’m stumped. Jack Perry could be rushed into the picture, or maybe Adam Cole secures another shot for Wardlow. I’m thinking AEW wants a name big enough to sell PPVs but also in position to take the loss as Swerve’s reign grows stronger.

Serena Deeb called out Storm for a shot. Deeb is high in the rankings, so it’s only a matter of going through the motions to book that match.

The House of Black are targeting Copeland. One member will receive a title match on Dynamite. It makes sense for this story to stretch to the PPV as Copeland eventually faces all three members with Malakai Black at the end.

Jericho won the FTW Championship from Hook at Dynasty. A rematch could be in order at Double or Nothing. If Hook isn’t cleared to compete after taking a baseball bat to the dome, then one of his friends could step up.

Opponents for the Elite and Bullet Club Gold are cloudier to pick. Fan favorites, such as Mark Briscoe & Eddie Kingston, could form a temporary tag team to challenge the Young Bucks in honor of Tony Khan. The same idea could be justified for Okada. Jay White’s crew could face any ragtag trios group.

Other match ideas include Jack Perry in action, Orange Cassidy versus Trent Beretta in a grudge match, and Jon Moxley defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

What’s your prediction for the final card at Double or Nothing? Which matches do you hope get booked?
