Beyond Gaming – the financial struggles hit the organization

The esports organization of the former professional player Xue “DinTer” Hong-Wei will stop competing in the PCS after struggling with its financial situation and general difficulties in finding sponsors. As of right now, it’s unclear who the replacement team will be.

Founded back in 2021, Beyond Gaming was born with the hopes of shifting things in the local esports ecosystem. The team acquired the spot of the legendary organization ahq eSports Club, which is mostly known for reaching Worlds quarterfinals back in 2015.

Despite being relatively new to the scene, the competitive results were immediate. Ever since their entrance into the league, BYG always made it to the playoffs stage of every single PCS split, proving their consistency and ambitions. The team also attended Worlds twice in 2021 and 2022.

While the results were great, BYG had to deal with increasing operational costs to maintain competitive results over time.

According to the team’s announcement, those cost have brought them to a dire financial situation that is no longer sustainable. Paired with the deteriorating health of the team’s owner, DinTer, the team will no longer compete.

Financial sustainability has been a recurring trend in the industry and has impacted many esports organizations in the past few years: BYG is now the latest victim. The “Esports Winter” has also hit the PCS league, which has usually been considered the strongest wildcard region. BYG’s exit from the league will impact the PCS as they will now have to find a new team to take their spot.

While the organizers will look for the replacement, PSG Talon will go on to represent the region at the Mid-Season Invitational, the first international tournament of the year.
