Agnieszka Radwanska hopes to coach Iga Swiatek-led Poland to United Cup title

Agnieszka Radwanska is excited about captaining Poland at the inaugural United Cup as she is hoping she can guide Iga Swiatek and company to winning the title.

At the inaugural United Cup, Radwanska and her husband Dawid Celt – the Polish Billie Jean King Cup captain – will captain the Polish team.

Poland will be represented by Swiatek, Magda Linette, Weronika Falkowska, Alicja Rosolska, Hubert Hurkacz, Daniel Michalski, Kacper Zuk and Lukasz Kubot.

Poland is set to compete in Group B against Switzerland and Kazakhstan.

“It’s very exciting, for sure. You can see a lot of good teams, big teams, combined with a lot of players also as a captain. I think it’s going to be a really big one, so we can’t wait,” Radwanska told Tennis Australia.

Radwanska: Coaching such a player like Swiatek will be challenging

Radwanska was once one of the top players in the world but she doesn’t really have lots of coaching experience.

Now, she will have a chance to work with three-time Grand Slam champion and world No 1 Swiatek. 

“It’s going to be a challenge for me as well to coach such good players like Iga and Hubert. Playing is one thing, but sitting on the bench is another thing. I don’t know what is more difficult to be honest, so I guess we’ll see there,” Radwanska added.

In 2015, Radwanska and Jerzy Janowicz helped Poland win the Hopman Cup.

Now, Poland has a new generation of tennis players and is set to compete in a newly-established mixed-team event. 

“Events like this, it’s always very exciting, especially when you can combine men and women in one team. You can enjoy tennis more, to be all together in one bench, cheering for each other and, you know, jumping there on the chairs. I had a couple of events like this, and it’s really something that you want to play and want to do because it’s just different from any other tournaments,” Radwanska explained.
