Setting-up Multiplayer in Elden Ring
Online Play Requirement
- Obviously, being connected to the internet and the game’s network features are enabled in your settings is required. Elden Ring’s multiplayer mode requires an active network connection to sync with other players.
Using Multiplayer Items:
- To summon friends, you’ll need specific items. The most important one is the Tarnished’s Furled Finger, which allows you to place a summoning sign for others to see. Your friends can use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy to see and interact with these signs.
Creating a Multiplayer Session:
- Similar to NPC summons, friends can be summoned at Small Golden Effigy. This limits the places you can set up multiplayer encounters. When there, you can access the multiplayer menu with the Furled Finger and Finger Remedy respectively.
- Use a password: Elden Ring allows you to set a password in your multiplayer settings to ensure that only your friends can see your summon signs. Both you and your friends should enter the same password in your respective game settings, making it something unique should prevent other players from joining accidentally.
How to Play Elden Ring with Friends
Once you’ve set everything up, here’s how to actually team up in-game:
Placing and Responding to Summon Signs
- Place your Tarnished’s Furled Finger sign in a previously agreed-upon location. Your friends will then use their Furlcalling Finger Remedy near that spot to see your sign and summon you into their game.
- Remember, you can only summon friends in areas where the area boss is still alive, and you cannot summon in certain specifically restricted areas.
Playing Together:
- Once summoned, you can play together: travel, fight enemies, and tackle bosses as a team. If you want to use voice chat, you’ll want to use a sperate chat. The game does use in game voice chat for when you’re playing with random people, but its not always used.

Scaling of Enemies
- Be aware that enemies will become tougher when you play in co-op mode. The game adjusts the difficulty to account for the increased number of players, so prepare for more resilient foes, also its much harder to “kite” when there’s the chance of a boss changing aggro to another player.
Stranger Danger
- Opening your game to multiplayer interactions also increases the likelihood of being invaded by other players, which can lead to PvP combat. Ensure you and your friends are prepared for this possibility by having appropriate gear.
