“Would you coach Novak Djokovic?” Brett Connors I asked his father Jimmy Connors a very clear question during the latest episode of the Advantage Connors podcast. And the former US tennis icon left everyone speechless with his response.
“What if I would coach Novak Djokovic? I’m out of tennis, Brett. I love hosting a tennis podcast and hanging out with you and talking about the sport. But you know, if an opportunity like that came along, it would definitely be a pleasure and an honor.
We were talking about Danielle Collins and how life changes and moves forward. Right now I’m happy doing what I’m doing. I love my life, I love everything about it,” answered Connors, leaving the door open to such a fascinating hypothesis how electrifying.

Meanwhile, Djokovic, on the occasion of the presentation of the documentary on Nikola Pilic, confessed that he could also continue without a real coach at this stage of his career.
“I still don’t have a clear idea of who the new coach will be, nor if there will be one. I’ve had coaches since I was a kid, now I’m trying to find out what I need on my own,” said Nole.
The Serbian champion announced the end of his collaboration with Goran Ivanisevic a few days ago, in what was – it must be remembered – one of the most successful in the history of tennis and sport in general. Djokovic is preparing the clay court season in Belgrade with former legend Nenad Zimonjic.
According to the local press, the former number one in doubles would be one of the main candidates to fill the role of coach in Djokovic’s box.
Djokovic leaves Ivanisevic
There are many hypotheses about the end of the professional relationship between Djokovic and Ivanisevic. The reality of the matter could be – simply – that their professional bond had reached its natural saturation and, therefore, ended.
“I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be part of my team. It was back in 2018, and Marian and I were looking to innovate and bring some serve magic to our duo. In fact, not only we brought serve, but also lots of laughter, fun, year end no1 rankings, record breaking achievements and 12 more Grand Slams (and a few finals) to the count since then.Did I mention a bit of drama too?
Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid. In fact, I am proud to say (not sure he is) that apart from winning tournaments together, we also had a side battle in Parchisi going on… for many years. And – that tournament never stops for us,” wrote Nole on Instagram.

The Croatian media reached Djokovic in Belgrade where Nole is preparing the clay court season together with Nenad Zimonjic.
“I can’t comment right now. I’m sorry I can’t tell you what you want to know, but thank you for coming. You can stay here, but Goran and I have broken off our collaboration.
You’ve seen the place on social media. Goran is a member of the family and will always be a friend. We just went our separate ways professionally. We have achieved historic results: we are the coach and the player who have won the most,” said Djokovic in Slobodna Dalmac.

“First of all Goran is my friend for life, mine and my family. He is a very dear person to me, the end of our professional collaboration does not mean that our friendship ends. We have reached a point in which we exhausted our cooperation after almost five years.
Together we wrote the history of our sport, we won the Slams, ended seasons as number one in the world, but we also went through trials and tribulations: the disqualification at the US Open, the deportation from Australia.
I will always remember that he was there for me as a person, as a human being first and foremost, and that he brought the right set of values to our relationship. This type of chemistry was followed by great results.
I wish Goran the best. I still don’t have a clear idea who the new coach will be, nor if there will be one. I’ve had coaches since I was a kid, now I try to feel for myself what I need, what I feel most comfortable with. You will be informed if someone joins the team,” underlined the Serbian champion in a press conference dedicated to Legend, a documentary about his junior mentor Nikki Pilic.
