The best part of the NFL draft is, without question, seeing players receive a phone call when a team is about to select them. Let’s put them all in one place for the San Francisco 49ers 2024 NFL Draft.
Ricky Pearsall
Pearsall told general manager John Lynch, “You’re getting a workhorse.”
Renardo Green
Lynch told Green, “You play our brand of football. You play tough, you play physical. You’re going to fit in here.”
Dominck Puni
Puni told offensive line coach Chris Foerster multiple times, “I’ve been waiting on you.” Foerster replied, “Waiting on us? You had to wait till we got a pick. We had to trade up to get you.”
Malik Mustapha
You can hear the inflection of Mustapha’s voice change when he hears who is calling. Lynch told Mustapha he was his favorite interview from the draft process.
“You made me feel a little inferior because you’re so damn swole.”
Mustapha told Shanahan, “I grew up being a fan of you guys.”
Isaac Guerendo
Guerendo was the most subdued reactiono-wise. This seems like one of those instances where the moment hasn’t hit the player yet.
Jacob Cowing
The Cowing call is cool as Lynch recalls Cowing’s son, then Shanahan remembers Cowing writing a letter to the team: “You were raised right. That was awesome.”
Jarrett Kingston
“We’re going to make a kid from Redding, California a 49er.”
Tatum Bethune
You can hear Bethune’s emotion pouring out on the other side of the phone while linebackers coach Johnny Holland delivers the message:
