WWE announces Queen of the Ring matches for Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair

WWE’s Queen of the Ring tournament kicked off on this week’s (May 6) Raw with IYO SKY, Zoey Stark, and Lyra Valkyria all advancing out of the first round. Meanwhile, Shayna Baszler vs. Zelina Vega will take place on a WWE house show.

We still don’t have a full bracket or the complete list of participating wrestlers on the SmackDown side of the Queen of the Ring, but WWE did just announce the following first round tournament matches for tomorrow’s (May 10) episode of SmackDown on FOX:

  • Jade Cargill vs. Piper Niven
  • Bianca Belair vs. Candice Lerae
  • Naomi vs. Nia Jax

That presumably leaves a spot open for one more first round match on the SmackDown half of the tournament.

The most notable thing here is the inclusion of both Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair in the tournament. In addition to being the current WWE women’s tag team champions, Belair has generally been the strongest booked woman in WWE over the last three years, and I assume Cargill will receive dominant booking along those lines as well. It’s now possible that they will fight each other later in the tournament to determine who is the Queen of the Ring, unless of course one of them is eliminated before then via disqualification, count out, or injury.

The other two matches announced for this week’s SmackDown are in the King of the Ring tournament; Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles and Angelo Dawkins vs. Tama Tonga.

Now that we have more matches announced for the Queen of the Ring tournament, which wrestler do you think is the favorite to go all the way? Give me your predictions in the comments below, Cagesiders.
