Nick Kyrgios got excited seeing a highlight shot he delivered against Rafael Nadal during their 2022 Indian Wells Masters match as the Australian tennis star “misses” competing and creating highlight reels on the court.
In 2022 March, Kyrgios and Nadal delivered an outstanding match in the Indian Wells quarterfinal. Although Kyrgios played great and competed extremely well against Nadal, the Spaniard still escaped with a 7-6 (0) 5-7 6-3 win.
At the time, Nadal had an unbeaten start to the season and Kyrgios came close to becoming the first player to beat the Spaniard in 2022 – but the former world No. 1 found a way to beat the Australian and push his streak to 19 consecutive wins. While Kyrgios didn’t manage to beat Nadal in Indian Wells, he later went on to reach the Wimbledon final and enjoy his career-best season in 2022.

Unfortunately, it has been far from perfect and great for Kyrgios since 2022. After appearing in just one tournament last season due to knee and wrist surgeries, Kyrgios is also missing the start of the 2024 season due to his ongoing wrist injury.
“Miss this tbh (to be honest,” Kyrgios captioned his Instagram Story.

Kyrgios shut down retirement claims
After Kyrgios’ column for The Sydney Morning Herald was interpreted as the Australian indicating that he may not return to tennis in 2024, the Australian issued a very strong response on his Instagram.
“I have woken up today and realized about some articles going around and saying that I am retired and that I’m not going to play anymore. I just want to just clear it up, it’s absolute nonsense,” Kyrgios said in a video posted on his Instagram Story last week.
“Yes, the last year has been tough with injury, my knee, my wrist, but I’m hungry as ever, constantly rehabbing, in the gym. Part of the reason why I am commentating and doing all these things around AO is to still feel that fire and still be a part of it.
“So I still wanted to let everyone know, all my fans I’m coming back, stay tuned, but there’s plenty left in the tank. Don’t stress.”

During the Australian Open, Kyrgios indicated that his hope and plan is to be able to play again during the grass season.
