As rumors swirl about Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland potentially joining the million-dollar Arab Super League (LIV Golf), it seems that, at least for the near future, he will remain committed to the PGA Tour.
Ranked number 7 in the world, Hovland confirmed that he will defend his title at the Travelers Championship in June, as announced by the organizers of the PGA Tour event.
Hovland’s recent performance at the Masters was disappointing, as he missed the cut after a challenging second round, shooting an 81. He followed this up with a withdrawal from the RBC Heritage Classic in Hilton Head the following week.

This isn’t the first time Hovland has struggled this season. In February, he withdrew from the Phoenix Open following a poor showing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am the week before.
Despite speculation, Hovland has previously denied any interest in joining the LIV Golf league. However, similar denials were made by players like Jon Rahm, who eventually made the move to the Super League for a significant financial gain.
At 26 years old, Hovland has already made a name for himself, winning the FedEx Cup in 2023 after back-to-back victories at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship. However, his 2024 season has been challenging, with only one top-20 finish in six tournaments so far.
The Travelers Championship is scheduled to take place from June 20 to 23, the week following the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. For the second consecutive year, it is designated as one of the events with a prize pool of $20 million.
His professional career began in 2019 with a debut at the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour, and in August, he finished second at the Albertsons Boise Open, securing a spot for the following season on the PGA Tour. In 2020, he achieved his first tournament victories, first winning the Puerto Rico Open and then, at the end of the year, the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
In 2021, he continued to set records. In June, he claimed his first European Tour title by winning the BMW International Open. He made his debut in the Ryder Cup, being selected for the 2021 edition in which Team Europe lost 19-9 to Team USA. Subsequently, he continued to demonstrate remarkable form, securing several tournament victories.
